Friends! I’ve been waiting for the Barnes and Noble pre-order sale like you wouldn’t believe. I have SO many books to pre-order. A lot of debuts. I’ll share a list of ideas below.
Through Friday, February 7, there is a big pre-order sale at Barnes & Noble. This means 25% off all pre-ordered books with the code PREORDER25. This includes e-books and audiobooks.
Here’s the link to order my debut novel Doll Parts, which publishes on August 26, 2025.
This sale is for B & N Premium and Rewards Members. If someone wants to pre-order but isn’t a member, they can also pre-order from most other retailers: your favorite independent bookstore, Bookshop.org, Target, Books-a-Million, and Amazon.
Why does pre-ordering books matter?
While much has been written about the importance of pre-orders, outside of the publishing world, I’ve found that this isn’t common information. I mean, I didn’t know how crucial pre-orders were until a few years ago. Book Riot has a great piece about pre-orders, but I can give you a quick version here, too.
Pre-orders count toward first-week sales, which means the number of copies sold in those early weeks can make or break a book since publishers want to see a book performing well.
Pre-orders can translate to a book making bestseller lists. Ever wonder how a book that was just published could hit the bestseller list immediately? The answer is most likely pre-orders.
Pre-orders can influence the stock a retailer carries for a particular title. And I really would love Doll Parts to be in bookstores all over.
My favorite part, as a reader, about pre-orders is forgetting that I’ve ordered and getting surprise book mail. In general, you don’t get charged until the book is shipped on the publication day. It’s kind of awesome.
It is also worth saying that I am incredibly thankful for anyone who orders my book at all. I just have a soft spot for ordering from bookstores because I want bookstores to still exist. Ordering from your local independent bookstore is always a good choice, as well. Shoutout to my favorite local store: M.Judson Booksellers.
What are other books you should pre-order this year?
Oh, do I have a list for you. Here is a just a small selection of debut novels that I’m ordering:
The Once and Future Me by Melissa Pace
Julie Chan is Dead by Liann Zhang
Count My Lies by Sophie Stava
We Don’t Talk About Carol by Kristen L. Berry
Again, Only More Like You by Catalina Margulis
At the Island’s Edge by C.I Jerez
Somewhere Past the End by Alex Faulkenberry
The Belles by Lacey Dunham
The Housewarming by Kristin Offiler
I’m off to fill my cart with some other pre-orders. I hope you will help me spread the word or pre-order Doll Parts. Thank you to everyone who has already reached out to me about pre-ordering. I can’t wait to share this book with you.
Sending you warmth and gratitude,
Penny

Thank you for including THE BELLES on your preorder list, Penny! 😊 I’m a little scared but a lot excited by how many books will be arriving to my doorstep in the next few months!
