Last time: A Year of Permission Slips
“Writing, regardless of the end result—whether good or bad, published or not, well reviewed or slammed—means celebrating beauty in an often ugly world.”—Mary Karr
If you are receiving this message, you are on my email list, which I recently moved over to Substack in a monthly newsletter called Mourning Pages. In some cases, I know you haven’t heard from me in a little while. Let’s change that. (You can always unsubscribe, but I hope you’ll stick around. In that case, you don’t have to do anything but keep reading.)
If you already know all about Mourning Pages and Substack, feel free to disregard this welcome message. Go enjoy the day!
The short version: Mourning Pages is a newsletter about writing, grief, books, motherhood, and ghosts. Joy and loss, art and pop culture—all mixed together in a sometimes raw, hopefully restorative way.
I usually send only one email a month (though paying subscribers get additional updates, writing prompts, top secret news, etc.). There are so many great newsletters on Substack and I’m pretty stoked to be a part of it all as this space continues to grow.
To catch you up to speed, if you’re new:
Imposter Syndrome (one of my most popular newsletters)
The good news: you are already on the list and don’t need to sign up for anything else. Unless…
You can become a paying subscriber to get more posts and more content (while also helping me continue to keep writing). If you want to check out some of the posts behind the paywall, there should be an option for a free 7-day trial.
The post I would recommend starting with Battle Ducks & Origin Stories.
Thank you for being here. I hope to keep sharing more big news this year, too. I’ll be sending out a newsletter behind the paywall pretty soon—don’t miss out.
I also promise this will be the only spammy message I send. Everything else is cat photos and book recommendations from here on out. Currently reading:
