Everything about the 90s was my favorite! I miss the TV shows, cassette tapes, no internet, biking with my friend around the neighborhood with zero adult supervision. What a time to be alive!!
I love the 90's so much, but when I think about music from the 90's my brain always flashes back to my obsession with the Cranberries. I listened to Linger constantly!
The Cranberries are still on play a lot in my house. Brings me back to my early 20s, just starting out as an adult, whoosh! Takes me right to a particular time and place just thinking about it.
My favorite thing from the 90s was the clear tech! My friend had a purple clear pager that I absolutely coveted. Nothing cooler than a trip to the mall and getting a page from her mom that it was time to be picked up outside Dillard's. Haha.
Pearl Jam's Ten album (especially Black), flannel, and movies like My Own Private Idaho and Reality Bites. I loved seeing my first crush, River Phoenix (RIP, still so missed!) in so very different a film than Stand By Me. Ditto for Winona Ryder Heathers ----> Reality Bites.
I am excited for "Doll Parts" and remember you loving Tori Amos in the 90's. I can't wait to receive my autographed hard back author copy of Doll Parts!
I'm excited for DOLL PARTS! 120 Minutes, yes. And FELICITY. I'm going to throw in POPULAR, though it only aired a few episodes in the '90s. I also need to include GIRL, INTERUPTED.
I was secretly in love with all things alternative in the 90s and as a kid in the PNW that meant grunge. But everyone in my tiny town who listened to that genre was male, likely on drugs, and severely unhappy. I couldn't reconcile my own teenaged image with those who lived in those songs and wore them like armor. Then college happened and I found my people and we blasted the best of the 90s through enormous speakers with no shame :)
Jared Leto and My So Called Life and driving around with friends blasting Mazzy Star Fade into You. Can’t wait to read Doll Parts! Thanks for the opportunity to win!!
Reading saved me in the 90s. I was a young, single mom working, going to school, and stuck in an abusive relationship for several years. I didn't even have a library card at the time, so I had to penny pinch in order to buy books. Other than my daughter, good things were in short supply. But Stephen King books got me through, and he released The Green Mile in mini (paperback) installments. I think they came out once a month, and I would be so excited for the release date, but also frustrated because I'd read it as soon as I got it and then have to wait a whole month for the next.
I'm excited for Doll Parts and I have so many favorites from the 90s! HOLE, Drew Barrymore, Snapple, My So Called Life, CD listening stations at music stores, wide legged jeans!

Especially no internet 🙌🏼😂
No internet--what a time!

I had that whole album memorized!
Me too!! So good.

Yes! The Cranberries always remind me of my senior prom. So good!

The mall, the pager—yes. I remember so clearly 😂
Hole! Liz Phair! I also deeply loved Felicity, Party of 5, and Buffy.
Liz Phair! Very much yes.

Reality Bites is iconic. I should re-watch that.
Offspring, Everclear, Pearl Jam, and Bush x. Buffy, Roswell, and the original 90210. RL Stine and Christopher Pike YA novels.
All of the above. Those Christopher Pike novels--yes!

I loved—and still love—all of these!

No shame at all!

I lived for My So-called Life.
Sassy magazine and 120 Minutes. Basically my 90's personality <3
Also, I AM excited for Doll Parts :)
Thank you! And yes to Sassy. I wish I still had all of them.
Me too! Every few months I chide myself anew for recycling them…
There is a great essay about Sassy (and teen girl mags in general) in Alice Bolin's new book Culture Creep!
I loved her first book!
Ooh, thank you! I will check it out!

Thank you for sharing, Kimberlee. Reading has saved me time and again. It still does. Hugs to you.
I love all of this! I mostly remember watching My So Called Life with my mom. Oh, and Felicity!
My favorites!
Now and Then was definitely a movie I watched over and over in the 90s. Just watched it anew with my 11 year old.
I forgot that movie! Omg, it was the best.
I can’t wait for this book! 📕❤️
