I've been doing the Artists way again since January this year (slowly but dedeicatedly) and am still SO bad at artists date - I think I've been on about 2?! Why is it so challenging? I just don't know what to I want to do.
I don’t do this, but I like this thought and will. I do find grief seems more present if I’m not working, cooking/cleaning, socializing or otherwise occupied. A movie? That’s a big date...I just feel like two hours by myself would be indulgent. Though writing that makes me sound ... I dunno, too much. Thanks.
Artist Dates sound neat, and I had forgotten they were in the Artists Way. I do solo stuff to get inspo but never schedule it in—and often feel like I am “wasting” time. I will try to be more intentional about setting one. Good idea!
I try to take Artist Dates often. I have two boys in school and I don't work outside the home, so that makes it much easier (although I am in an online program for grad school which keeps me plenty busy!) I find that if I dedicate one block of time per week that is automatically scheduled, I'm much more likely to go on an Artist Date. Typically for me, it's midday on a Friday for 2 hours or so. I usually don't know what I'll be doing until the day of or the day before, but it's been a life-giving rhythm to automatically have that time set aside. Everyone's circumstances are different, though, so I hope you find something that works for you!
Your first artist date sounds so great--I love that joy for you! And I really enjoyed The Plot, a delicious treat to watch it unfold and guess at the next plot twist. Will be curious to hear your experience with it.

All the ideas in the book and on her website don’t sound like my kind of thing either. I feel your pain!

It does feel indulgent! That's probably my main reason for resistance.

I hate that feeling of wasting time, but I'm trying to be more intentional, too.

My work schedule definitely makes it difficult, but I might be able to manage some summer Fridays!

Thank you! I just finished it and really enjoyed it. I predicted the twist, but still found the ending satisfying.
